Putting run producers on a level field of dreams

Nothing new—just another look at standardized run production, this time from the rate-statistic point of view of “runs produced above average per 100 PAs.” Top 100 (≥ 2500 PAs) in table below.

I added columns for three “raw” career “runs produced > avg” totals computed according to thee metrics: (1) OPS-estimated (used for the standardized per 100 here); (2) Bill James Runs Created; and (3) FanGraphs “weighted runs above average.” I’m still awed by the level of agreement.

Pretty cool to see, through the perception-clarifying effect of standardization, how various contemporary players line up with historical greats (obviously Judge & Ruth are the most interesting comparison—but I’ve featured that one enough already).

I’m guessing that Alvarez won’t end his career ahead of Rogers Hornsby–but it’s an interesting thing to even consider!
