Would you have guessed this many? Fewer? More?
For sure there wouldn’t be this many if the two awards were made randomly.
MVP has a bias (statistically, anyway) in favor of players from teams that finish in first place (in league before 1969, division thereafter). There will also be at least a weak correlation between finishing first and having the league’s best pitcher. So the two awards are made on basis of criteria that aren’t truly independent.
But still …. hmmm…..
