Impact of expanding American-worker leisure time on MLB pitchers

Okay, not breaking news, but still pretty remarkable…. 

Only another reminder that we aren’t watching the same game that was major league baseball from essentially 1920 to 1990.

BTW, this is all raw numbers–total of all AL/NL pitchers on left, proportion of all on right. Put it together just to help me think about value of comparing pitchers based on “total season runs saved” or “team wins contributed” over time; obviously, pitchers in post “Great Transformation” era can never accumulate numbers on a par with leaders from earlier eras. There is a parallel trend in “innings per start” etc., but this graphic can’t give you that if that’s what you seek!
