MLB Pioneers: from one major league to another

This is my “Negro League to ‘The Show’ ” collection.

This is a visual representation of my collection of cards of players who played in both the Negro League and MLB. Some never had a mainstream or any other card created with their image during their MLB playing days. Some only had one and others were depicted only on Team photograph cards.

When possible and practicable I tried to obtain the player’s rookie card. This is more than a collection of players of African-American descent. There are also a handful of early cards of lighter skinned players, mostly from Cuba, who blurred the lines of racial injustice in professional baseball.

This collection is one of my greatest joys. It is always a work in progress becuase I’m always looking for great cards of all these Major League Baseball Pioneeers, hashtagges #MLBPioneers on my Twitter feed. I have not taken the time to consolidate a list of all these great men.

My collection has been helped by information from many sources including blogs and publications. Notable folks who’ve really helped me personally include, but are not limited to @scott_simkus and @stuber_scott.
